LGBT+ Baie-des-Chaleurs

Founded in 2011 by and for the region’s queer communities, LGBT+ Baie-des-Chaleurs – Association for Sexual and Gender Diversity has been a community organization recognized by the CISSS de la Gaspésie and Justice Québec since 2013.

Based in the unceded territory of Baie-des-Chaleurs, in Gespe’gewa’gi—the ancestral Mi’gmaq territory—the association provides services in the Bonaventure and Avignon RCMs, including the communities of Gesgapegiag and Listuguj.

Its mission is to support the well-being, recognition, and rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ people through intervention, support, community education, awareness-raising, and advocacy.

History

Born out of a community-driven initiative in 2011, the Baie-des-Chaleurs LGBT+ Association was founded to address a pressing need in the region: to break down isolation, offer support, and defend the rights of people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. From the very beginning, the organization has been driven by and for members of the local queer community, with a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive space.

Since its official recognition as a community organization in 2013, the Association has continually expanded its impact. Whether through advocacy, community education, political representation, or social mobilization, it has become an essential resource in the Gaspé Peninsula for 2SLGBTQIA+ people and their allies.
